3nd Annual Music Festival – “Live – In Person Concert”

3nd Annual Music Festival – “Live – In Person Concert”

“This program is guaranteed to be the most innovative and creative performances that will totally inspire you and promises to be the most fascinating musical program to date”. “This is a jazz style program that classical musicians will thoroughly enjoy and everyone else will truly love”, Said Joann Freeburg, Founder of the Music Foundation of WNC.

Christopher Tavernier wrote, “what’s interesting with this program, despite being very different styles of music, all of the pieces are very rhythmically driven and stylized. Within that though you have very different genres of course with the latinesque melodies of the Marquez and the D’Rivera and the bombastic brassy textures of the Gershwin and the intricate layering of Bernstein. It’s very difficult to provide the range of those extremities with just a piano and clarinet but that’s what makes this program challenging for us and engaging for the audience”.

Our inspiration was to have a program centered around surveying a variety of music of the 20th century with a strong focus on the Americas with a very wide diversity, from the very popular to the unheard of. We wanted to put together something playful and delightful for what will probably be a first concert for many in a while, and it doesn’t get much better than a mix of Latin and Jazz and a little in-between.

The finale of the festival is the 2nd Suite of the late French jazz pianist and composer, Claude Bolling. This fifty-minute, eight-segment jazz excursion is written for a quartet of flute, piano, string bass, and drums.

The American Songbag: Hendersonville Symphony Quintet

The American Songbag: Hendersonville Symphony Quintet

VIP Floor Seating: $29

Stadium Seating: $26

At-the-Door / Day-of (All Seats): $33

Carl Sandburg’s 1927 anthology The American Songbag was a massively influential song collection that heralded the rise of the widespread appreciation of American folksong. The HSO’s principal wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn) will be performing folksong-inspired works by Dvorak, Still, Simone, and even Dylan in this lively program.

One of the earliest composers to explore the question of a “serious and original US school of composition” was ironically the Czech composer Anton Dvorak. Living and travelling in the US in the early 1890’s, Dvorak composed his “American” Quartet in F major, which was inspired by the culture, spirituals, and even the trains and songbirds of America.

This concert will also feature “Miniatures” by William Grant Still (b. 1895), often called the “dean of Afro-American composers.” The piece includes a number of songs and spirituals from Songbag.

Also on the program is Bob Dylan’s “Times they are a Changin.” Dylan visited Sandburg in Flat Rock and presented Sandburg a copy of the song. Tryon native Nina Simone recorded Dylan’s song, and her own “New World Coming” rounds out the concert.

CANCELED: Shirley Valentine starring Sarah-Lee Dobbs

This event has been canceled.

Willy Russell’s Tony-winning dramedy Shirley Valentine is a powerfully funny portrait of mid-life rebirth. Shirley is an empty-nest English housewife with an emotionally absent husband, who resorts to talking with the wall for companionship. When she exits her home for an unannounced fortnight holiday in Greece, everyone assumes she’s going to have a scandalous affair, but it’s really her own lost lust for living that she’s searching for along the sun-soaked sand.

Russell’s script is like a British sex farce without most of the sex, and Dobbs deliciously wrings every last laugh out of Valentine’s amusingly dated attitudes towards dating and feminism. But there’s also a deep range of real emotions buried inside this character, which Dobbs excavates with touching empathy.

“Need to be shaken out of the doldrums? Just want a little push to get your life back on track? Something to help you remember the real — and happy — you? Well, don’t buy a self-help book or schedule an appointment with the doctor. A trip to “Shirley Valentine” will do the trick.” – Matt Palm, Orlando Sentinel

An Evening with Spirit Anthony Mikolojeski The Asheville Medium

An Evening with Spirit Anthony Mikolojeski The Asheville Medium

Anthony Mikolojeski is a third-generation Polish-American psychic and natural-born medium. He first experienced his gifts of clairaudience, clairvoyance, clairsentience, and communication with the spirit world as a child of five years of age. Over the years, these spiritual experiences increased, which led him to realize he had a special mission in the world, which set him on his mediumship journey. As a psychic medium, he is very passionate about his work and he believes mediumship is the most fulfilling experience in his life. Being able to connect with loved ones in the spirit world not only provides the evidence of the afterlife, but also allows the love, closure, and healing to be given to his clients. A simultaneous healing occurs for the loved one in the spirit world and the client here in the physical. This healing allows us, as souls, to let go of the deep emotions that may be holding us back in life; thus allowing us to live more fully and joyfully and on our blueprint path. Anthony has studied with some of the world’s top mediums in the U.S. and U.K. His travels have led him to study at the prestigious Arthur Findlay College to further his advanced education in mediumship.

“My responsibility is to hold a positive space and always come from a place of love. I truly feel that I was given this beautiful gift from God to help people. This opportunity to give validating messages imparts the beautiful understanding that our souls do live on past the physical realm.”
