Brevard Music Center's faculty present Olivier Messiaen's ethereal "Quartet for the End of Time," which is recognized as one of the most significant chamber works of the 20th century. Written while he was a prisoner of war in German captivity and inspired by text from the Book of Revelation, the work is scored for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano—the instruments and musicians sharing space in Stalag VIII-A.

Now in its 40th year on WQXR, New York City's only classical music radio station, Young Artists Showcase seeks out and displays the talents of young emerging artists. Inspired by his Russian compatriots Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, Anton Arensky's Piano Trio No. 1 is a rhapsodic memorial to Karl Davidoff—the man regarded as the founder of the Russian school of cello playing. At times lyrical, elegiac and full of bravura, Arensky's charming trio provides the cello a prominent and soaring role.

Intensely personal, and at times brooding and turbulent, Robert Schumann's Piano Trio No. 1 stands as a definitive statement in Romantic chamber music. Often symphonic in nature, Schumann's masterpiece explores the ranges, colors and rhythmic vibrancy of the violin, cell, and piano, for which it is written.

At Brevard Music Center's "Candide," be dazzled by Leonard Bernstein's exuberant American Broadway musical comedy. Filled with fun and frolic, it is based on Voltaire's satirical story and features the arias "Glitter and Be Gay" and the finale "Make Our Garden Grow." Ticket holders may attend a free pre-opera talk in Scott Commons beginning one hour before the performance.

Brevard Music Center (BMC) is presenting world-renowned violinist Noah Bendix-Bagley. He will be joined by his Berlin Philharmonic colleague, hornist Stefan de Leval Jezierski, and BMC faculty pianist Norman Krieger in the incomparable Brahms Horn Trio. Noah also teams with his BMC friends in a performance of Felix Mendelssohn's exuberant String Quintet No. 2.
