Town of Mills River Santa Tour

Santa Claus is coming to town! To the town of Mills River, to be exact. On Saturday, December 12th, Santa will ride on a big, red fire truck through Mills River neighborhoods to bring holiday cheer to children of all ages.

Santa is scheduled to arrive from the North Pole at 10:00 AM and will trade his sleigh and reindeer for a big red fire truck bringing Holiday cheer to the boys and girls of Mills River. Santa’s trip will be wrapped up about 5:00 PM, with a final stop at Mills River Park before heading back to the North Pole. Due to Mills River’s size and mountainous roads, the fire truck will not be able to travel up each road in Town, but will pass through the Town’s main roadways and as many neighborhoods as possible.

For those not along Santa’s Route, you can catch a glimpse of the jolly old elf at one of the designated “Santa Stops.” Santa’s helpers will be on hand to give out candy canes to any children they see along the way. Due to the restrictions on gatherings and risks associated with COVID-19, we are kindly asking folks to remain in their cars at designated “Santa Stops.” Santa’s helpers will bring a candy cane to you. Make sure to wear a mask, we do not want Santa to get sick!

To find out when Santa will be in your neighborhood visit www.millsriver.org/santa to find out an approximate time of arrival. On Saturday, December 12 beginning at 10 a.m., you will be able to track Santa live via GPS on our website and on the “Town of Mills River, NC” Facebook page. Please remember that all times are estimates and we cannot guarantee arrival times. The best way to know Santa is coming to use the live tracker and to listen for the holiday music and to look for the flashing lights coming down the street!

In the event or inclement weather on December 12th, the tour will occur at the same times on December 23, 2020. For all the details on the Mills River Santa Tour 2020 please visit our web site at www.millsriver.org/santa or call Mills River Town Hall at 828-890-2901.

Hendersonville Turkey Trot 5K

Hendersonville Turkey Trot 5K

The City of Hendersonville’s Wellness Committee will be hosting the 8th Annual Turkey Trot 5k Thanksgiving morning on November 26, 2020. Participants will notice changes aimed at promoting social distancing, but the focus of keeping active and having fun will remain the same.

The biggest change for the event in 2020 is an open start window. Participants are invited to begin the walk/run anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. There will be no race clock or official start time, eliminating the need to congregate at the beginning of the course. Walkers and runners should plan to be off the course by 10:30 a.m.

The 5k course begins in front of City Hall at Fifth Avenue East and King Street, travels through downtown, and ends back at City Hall. Participants should wear a mask when they are unable to remain socially distanced from others.

In order to further promote social distancing, no prizes will be awarded this year and there will be no water station offered on the course. Individuals who register may also choose to complete the course on their own on an alternate day and time.

Participants and volunteers may register for the Turkey Trot at www.hendersonvillenc.gov/turkeytrot. The entry fee is $12 and includes a long sleeve t-shirt and race packet. The event will take place rain or shine, sleet or snow; however, the event is subject to cancelation depending on state mandates and public health recommendations in place on the day of the event.

Registrations received by November 12 will be guaranteed their preferred t-shirt size. Volunteers receive a free shirt and can register at www.hendersonvillenc.gov/turkeytrot

Race packets may be picked up on Tuesday, November 24, or Wednesday, November 25 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the City Hall lobby located at 160 Sixth Avenue East. Please wear a mask and wait six feet apart when visiting the lobby.

For more information, contact Lu Ann Welter at (828) 233-3204 or at lwelter@hvlnc.gov.

Turkey Trot at Bill Moore Community Park

Turkey Trot at Bill Moore Community Park

South Asheville Turkey Trot 5k registration is now open!
The in-person 5K running event has been moved to Fletcher Park and will offer a safe and family-friendly environment

EVENT INFO:
Location: Fletcher Park (Bill Moore Park is formerly known as Fletcher Park and is located at 85 Howard Gap Road in Fletcher, NC).
There is also a virtual option, where the events can be run anywhere.
Start Times: 8:00am until 10:00am, Rolling, Pre-assigned Wave Starts
Event Info:https://idaph.net/south-asheville-turkey-trot
Contact: stephanie@idaph.net

iDaph Events is excited to announce that the Turkey Trot will take place this year as a live, in-person 5K running event. The event will take place in Fletcher Park on the morning of Thanksgiving Day. This is the only in-person, chip-timed, Turkey Trot 5k running event taking place in the Asheville area this year.

This is the 3rd Annual Turkey Trot in South Asheville, designed and produced by iDaph Events, and it will offer a great way for families and friends to get their “run on” before sitting down for a Thanksgiving feast. This festive 5K, which typically takes place at Biltmore Park Town Square, is being moved for the 2020 race to Fletcher Park due to COVID-19.
“In order to provide a safe, responsible race for our community, we need to have an extended duration to start participants so that there is not a mass start with a large group of runners,” says Race Director Daphne Kirkwood. “We have hosted other socially-distanced and safe events with this rolling, start format at Fletcher Park this summer. These races have been successful at providing a safe racing experience. It made sense to move the event this year to Fletcher Park and we are ecstatic to be able to offer a small, safe Turkey Trot 5k in 2020.”

The race will be capped at 300, and socially distancing guidelines will be put in place throughout the race to provide a fun and safe running environment for local runners, walkers and families.

“Turkey trots are the biggest running events of the year, and we are grateful we can provide a traditional Thanksgiving event at Fletcher Park,” says Kirkwood. “The course will be flat and fast, so participants that have joined us the past two years will get to experience a completely different scenic and beautiful run on Greenways and paths throughout the park.”

About Fletcher Park
Fletcher Community Park is recognized as one of the best family parks in Western North Carolina. Park patrons have access to miles of scenic walking trails, Cane Creek, and countless other amenities, including a bike path, disc golf, picnic tables, birding, and a playground that is now open to the public. There are also public restrooms next to the parking lot, and a few porta-potties available at the start of the course.

About the 5K Course
The 5K course is run on paved Greenways and paths and on packed-dirt roads that follow along Cane Creek and Hoopers Creek throughout the entirety of Fletcher Park. There are scenic views of the creeks and distant mountains.

Wave Start format
The run starts between the hours of 8am and 10am, and there will be wave starts of 50 participants in each wave. The six wave starts have a maximum of 50 participants in each wave. Runners must sign up for a wave start time when registering. When registering, you will select a wave start that will be a 19 minute window. You can show up and begin your race at any point during that time frame. Again, each wave is limited to 50 participants, so your desired start time may be fully booked as we get nearer to race day. We strongly encourage fast runners to sign up in one of the first waves! Please Note: The course time limit is 11:00 AM.

Race Swag
Every participant gets a 2020 Commemorative South Asheville Turkey Trot finisher medal that spins, and a custom designed, super cozy, South Asheville Turkey Trot t-shirt.

Virtual 5K Option
Participants who choose the virtual option can run the Turkey Trot 5K on their own time! Virtual participants will have access to the course information for the event so they can have a ‘self-serve’ event experience on the same courses as the in-person participants. Or, they can come up with their own courses anywhere that they live!

Virtual Event Highlights:
• All Virtual participants will receive a Commemorative medal. Opportunity to add-on a t-shirt! Both items will be shipped for free!
• Download the official playlist and jam to it on your course
• Download Personalized Bib
• Upload Results to event results page
• Download finisher completion certificates
• Access to our Strava Club for this event
• The top 5 male and female finishers will win an awesome prize!
