3nd Annual Music Festival – “Live – In Person Concert”

3nd Annual Music Festival – “Live – In Person Concert”

“This program is guaranteed to be the most innovative and creative performances that will totally inspire you and promises to be the most fascinating musical program to date”. “This is a jazz style program that classical musicians will thoroughly enjoy and everyone else will truly love”, Said Joann Freeburg, Founder of the Music Foundation of WNC.

Christopher Tavernier wrote, “what’s interesting with this program, despite being very different styles of music, all of the pieces are very rhythmically driven and stylized. Within that though you have very different genres of course with the latinesque melodies of the Marquez and the D’Rivera and the bombastic brassy textures of the Gershwin and the intricate layering of Bernstein. It’s very difficult to provide the range of those extremities with just a piano and clarinet but that’s what makes this program challenging for us and engaging for the audience”.

Our inspiration was to have a program centered around surveying a variety of music of the 20th century with a strong focus on the Americas with a very wide diversity, from the very popular to the unheard of. We wanted to put together something playful and delightful for what will probably be a first concert for many in a while, and it doesn’t get much better than a mix of Latin and Jazz and a little in-between.

The finale of the festival is the 2nd Suite of the late French jazz pianist and composer, Claude Bolling. This fifty-minute, eight-segment jazz excursion is written for a quartet of flute, piano, string bass, and drums.

Music Festival Program Highlights
PROGRAM – “The Americas”
South American Music (Latin Style) – Clarinet & Piano
Arturo Márquez: “Zarabandeo”
Paquito D’Rivera: “The Cape Cod Files”
Astor Piazzolla: “Libertango”

North American Music (Jazzy Style) – Clarinet & Piano
Leonard Bernstein: West Side Story
“Jet Song” & “Something’s Coming”
Leonard Bernstein: “Clarinet Sonata”
George Gershwin: “Rhapsody in Blue”

PROGRAM – “La France en Amérique”
With a Modern Swing of Elegant Jazz – (Elegant Jazz) – Flute, Piano, Double Bass & Drums
Claude Bolling: “Suite No. 2 for Flute & Jazz Piano Trio”

Hendersonville’s mural is part of Matt’s initiative to personally paint 50,000 bees and pollinators in murals around the world. A Flat Rock Playhouse Christmas, A Virtual Production

A Flat Rock Playhouse Christmas, A Virtual Production

The tradition continues with A Flat Rock Playhouse Christmas. For the past four years, we have been able to celebrate the holidays with our community and beloved patrons through our Flat Rock Playhouse Christmas productions. This year, we are all celebrating the holidays a little differently, so we’re bringing the Christmas show to your home! Experience the magic and merriment with your favorite Vagabonds on stage and around town. This year’s one-of-a-kind production was filmed on the Rock and in Hendersonville and captures the spirit of the holidays like never before with dancing on Main Street, fireside singing, stunning performances on stage, and a virtually connected chorus. Featuring favorites old and new like “White Christmas,” “O Holy Night,” “Carol of the Bells,” “This Christmas,” and many more.

Christmas Sponsors: Carolina Village; Boyd Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick; Dr. Jason Bergman, Connie & Jacey; Joe & Hilda Ippolito; David & Sharon Leiman; Andy Oxy Co.; Morrow Insurance; Southern Alarm & Security; Joseph Laughter Clothier & Scott Keels Design; Scott & Pamela Marks

A Flat Rock Playhouse Christmas, A Virtual Production was filmed on location at Carl Sandburg National Historic Site, Flat Rock Playhouse, Kanuga Conference Center, and Main Street in Hendersonville, NC. Filming adhered to all state and county guidelines regarding Covid-19.
