Farm City Day

Farm City Day brings the farm to the city so families can learn about the importance of agriculture in everyday life. Jackson Park will be filled with activities such as: a petting zoo, educational displays, old-timey demonstrations, a fishing pond, games, wagon rides, antique and modern farm equipment, live music, food and concessions for sale, and crafters selling their wares. Coordinated by the NC Cooperative Extension Henderson County Office.

NC Mountain State Fair

The NC Mountain State Fair is the third largest fair in North Carolina. The Fair runs from September 11 – 20 at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center. It celebrates the heritage of the Blue Ridge Mountains, including agriculture, music, crafts, art, food, entertainment, display of livestock, competitions, & midway amusement rides. Enjoy the 30th Annual Spring Festival at Historic Johnson Farm, a heritage education center. Step back into the past for a family-friendly, entertaining event suitable for all family and individuals of all ages. The event is from 10 am to 4 pm. The festival features heritage crafts and activities, farm animals, house tours, live music by renowned youth fiddler Lillian Chase and the Deadpan String Band, food for purchase, and more! All activities take place on the 15-acre farm that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a NC Cultural Treasure. The farm features 10 historic structures including an 1880s brick farmhouse and a 1923 boarding house that is home to the Heritage Weavers and Fiber Artists.

Charlotte’s Web

Flat Rock Playhouse begins their Studio 52 Family Series with the “terrific” show about “some pig,” Charlotte’s Web, which runs on the Leiman Mainstage March 13th through the 28th.

Wilbur, an irresistible young pig, who desperately wants to avoid becoming “pork chops,” meets an extraordinary spider who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.” The best American children’s book of the past two hundred years, this treasured tale, complete with endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship.

Holiday Movie Night featuring Elf!

Join in the fun at the annual Holiday Movie Night at the Historic Courthouse! The evening features the movie Elf on the projector in the Commissioner’s Board Room. The event starts at 3:30 outside in front of the courthouse. There will be free hot cocoa, games, a bounce house and the opportunity to take pictures with Santa. Buddy the Elf and Jovie will also be in attendance so be ready to smile! After the outdoor festivities, head inside at 6:30 to warm up, have popcorn, and watch a short holiday film before the main feature. Polar Express Reading

Join the folks of the Apple Valley Model Railroad Club at the Historic Depot for the annual reading of the popular children’s Christmas story, The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. Peppermint Bear Scavenger Hunt

Peppermint Bear Scavenger Hunt

Peppermint the Bear is a special friend of Santa and she needs your help finding her missing cubs! They were sent out to get holiday decorations and a tree, and have not come home. Find Peppermint at the Visitor Center, and then head out to shops along Main Street to look for her cubs. If you help her find 12 of her cubs, you will be eligible to win a prize. The scavenger hunt is available from November 29 – December 23, 2019, so that the bears will be home in time for Christmas! Download a Peppermint Bear Scavenger Hunt brochure.

New and improved for 2019, the Treat Street Carnival takes the annual Trick or Treat Street of Hendersonville’s past and expands upon it! This year, Main Street will be closed to car traffic, making it extra safe for your family. This year, you’ll be able to:

  • Trick or treat with the merchants from Allen Street through 6th Avenue as well as additional community partners in pop-up tents in the 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street (starting at 5pm)
  • Participate in a Costume Contest to get great prizes, open to all ages and pets, held in the 400 block of Main (registration begins at 4:30pm, with judging to follow at 6pm)
  • Have fun with a DJ, dance party and inflatables in the 200 block (starting at 7pm)
  • Watch Halloween Movies on a large, outdoor screen in the 300 block (beginning at 7pm)

The weekend’s events include a street fair, arts & crafts vendors, entertainment, children’s activities, carnival rides, the King Apple Parade, lots of food, voting for the best apple variety, live music, dancing, a great way to meet Hendersonville’s apple growers, meet local business owners, and much, much more!

The Festival takes place Fri-Sun from 10am-8pm, and Mon. from 10am-5pm. Located on Main Street from 6th Ave to Caswell St.

Hendersonville produces the vast majority of North Carolina’s apples, and apple farming is a way of life in Hendersonville. This fun harvest celebration takes place early on in the apple harvest season, and is a great way to bring together the country and city folk to enjoy everything apple related!
