Join the folks of the Apple Valley Model Railroad Club at the Historic Depot for the annual reading of the popular children’s Christmas story, The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. Readings begin following the Christmas parade in downtown. Space is limited to 40 per reading and will last 15-20 minutes per reading. Santa, free hot chocolate and goodies will also be available. All ages are welcome!

Trick or Trail 5k

The 5th Annual Trick or Trail 5k & 1 Mile Spooky Sprint lets runners experience the beauty of DuPont Forest in a unique nighttime racing format. This run is Halloween themed, so runners of all ages are encouraged to come and run in costume, and are required to wear a headlamp or bring a flashlight.

Race starts and ends at the Guion Farm area in DuPont State Forest.

Farm City Day 2019

The farm comes to the city at Hendersonville’s Annual Farm City Day! Located in Jackson Park, Farm City Day celebrates our rural traditions and introduces the urban population to agriculture, Hendersonville’s most important industry. There will be petting zoo, urban, rural and educational displays, antique and modern farm equipment, live music, food and concessions for sale, and crafters selling their wares. Plus, there will be a special youth area with hands-on activities including petting farm animals, old-timey demonstrations, and a fishing pond. Enjoy many children’s games and stay for a wagon ride through the park.

Historic Johnson Farm is a heritage education museum owned by Henderson County Public Schools. It offers school field trips, historic home tours, nature trails, picnic tables, animals and 10 historic structures on 15 acres of forest, fields, and streams. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated a North Carolina Cultural Treasure.

“Chalk It Up!” is a chalk-art festival featuring 150 artists drawing on seven blocks of Main Street in Hendersonville, NC. All artists – professionals and novices of all ages – are given free chalk and assigned sidewalk space and encouraged to “Draw your dreams on Main!” for prizes and fun. This contest helps to promote Hendersonville as “a city with a heart for art.” The chalk art lasts until the next rain. Rain dates are: July 20 and July 27

The Witch And The Wardrobe tells the story of 4 siblings who go to live in the English countryside with an old professor while WWII attacks threaten London. One day, while playing hide and seek, the youngest of the children hides in a large wardrobe, only to find that it leads to a magical land called Narnia. The other children are at first not convinced this secret land exists, but eventually, the children all find themselves in the closet and eventually into Narnia, where they become intertwined in the lives of the creatures living there, trying to save them from the evils of the White Witch.

The light show opens with the popular Lights by the Lake Foot Tour on December 1, from 5:30pm – 9pm. Admission for the walking tour is only $5 per adult. Children under 16 are admitted free with a paying adult. Guests are invited to experience the lights through a memorable and immersive experience by leaving their cars behind and taking a leisurely stroll through thousands of bright, twinkling holiday lights. Visitors can wind their way to the center of the park where they will find games, crafts with LEAF’s Easel Rider Artists, s’mores, and more. Santa will even be on hand for photos. Parking for the foot tour will be at Family of Faith Fellowship Church.

Take the family on a tractor-drawn wagon ride through festively decorated Main Street, from 6-9pm. Passengers board at the Hendersonville Visitor Center, located at 201 S Main Street. Thanks to Stepp’s Orchard for supplying the wagon rides!

 

On these days, Santa will be on the Visitor Center stage to take photos with your kids from 2-6pm (bring your camera!) and from 11am-7pm, the iceless skating rink will be open, you can play curling on two iceless lanes, and enjoy cocoa, snacks and games! Skating costs $8 for adults, $5 for kids ages 10 and under, and includes skate rental. Curling costs $5 per person for 30 minutes of play.

An interactive pre-show party takes place one hour before show time with opportunities to meet the cast, snap selfies and play games so be sure to come and get your seats early!

The main event lasts approximately 90 minutes, with a brief intermission. Attendees are encouraged to stay after the show to mingle with the performers and take group photos. There are no animals in the show, just lots of very talented humans.

Tickets are $5 more at the door, so save time and money and buy online in advance.
